Creo Polska at the startline An official opening of the office of Creo Poland took place at the Warsaw Olympic Centre Athina Park on January 19. Almost 200 people participated in the event hosted by Marek Pultorak, General Director of Creo Poland, and Israel Sandler, MD of Creo EMEA and Yussi Bendor, Director of Sales for Northern Europe gave speeches. Both managers stressed the importance of the Polish market for Creo and the fact that the company has a large number of clients here. A speech was also given by Ralph Lyshyshyn, the ambassador of Canada in Poland; among other things, he spoke of the increasing turnover in trade between the two countries. Creo Polska currently employs five people and this number is to at least double by the end of the year. The company is also planning to open a specialist service centre in Warsaw. One of the first contracts of Creo Polska was signed with Winkowski Sp. z o.o., which purchased two more Magnus large-format CtP systems. Agfa Đ 10 years in Poland On January 27, Agfa organised a press conference in Warsaw on the tenth anniversary of its presence in Poland. Agfa Sp. z o.o. (Co.Ltd) was established in 1994 and it currently employs 51 people. Apart from the trade offer for the printing industry, the company also provides technical service and support. Another local venture of Agfa is Agfa Finance Polska Sp. z o.o., set up in 2001, which offers its assistance in financing purchases of Agfa equipment and software. Wojciech Pawlowski, General Director of Agfa Sp. z o.o., pointed out that last year was particularly successful for Agfa in Poland: the company had the highest turnover in history. The sales figure reached 136 million PLN (net profit 2.33 million PLN). In 2004, the overall increase in sales reached 5.1% in comparison with 2003 (the largest increase, 17%, was achieved in the of Graphic Systems Division). In the nearest future, the companyŐs strategy in Poland, as well as around the world, is to focus its operations on the B2B sector. Operations of the Graphic Systems Division will include four key segments: newspapers, commercial, packaging and service. Also an increase in the market share of digital printing is planned. The crowning point of the celebrations of AgfaŐs anniversary in Poland was ăCuban NightÓ, which began in the evening of January 28. Over 500 people celebrated and had fun with the Latino rhythms of the Mili Morena band at the Intercontinental Hotel in Warsaw. Grafitec in Poland The Grafitec company, so far represented in Poland by Mercator Poligrafia, has entered the Polish market directly on January 1, 2005. The company is known mostly for production of offset sheet-fed printing presses in SRA2 and B2 formats. It is also the East-European distributor of CtP systems and consumables of Presstek. Petr Skrla, CEO of Grafitec, points out that Poland is a strategic market for this manufacturer and second in terms of importance, after the Czech Republic. A team of sales representatives responsible for the Polish market has already been formed and contracts with several regional service companies are to be signed soon. Also planned are the creation of a warehouse for spare parts and the opening of an office in Poland, presumably in Warsaw. Vidical goes international The award ceremony in the Vidical calendar and greeting card contest was held on February 3. Although the contest already has a several-year long tradition, this year was quite special Đ it was the 1st International Vidical Calendar and Greeting Card Contest. About 150 calendars and about 40 cards were registered for the contest, some of them from abroad. The calendar of Warta Insurance Company was awarded the Grand Prix Vidical 2005. Among other categories, an award for the highest quality of print was also given. Exhibited were also calendars not classified in the contest: Pirelli's and Huber Group's. The organisers of the contest were Vidical, Estyma and the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, and Poligrafika was one of the media patrons. A new record at Winkowski Six months following the set up of a KBA Rapida 162 large-format printing press at Winkowski Sp. z o.o., a new record in printing was established on that press, namely 3,231,800 folded signatures per month. It is the first press in Poland printing in such a large format (max. sheet format: 112 x162 cm.). According to the Polish representative of KBA, one of the German book printing houses using exactly the same printing press, prints about 3 million signatures per month.
