Artis ID S.A. (Joint Stock Company) officially began its operations in Poland. It is a joint venture company, whose shareholders are Ortis SA and Argo Card Sp. z o.o. (Co.Ltd.) and ID Data Systems, a British company. The aim of the new venture is mass production of plastic cards.
On November 30th, for inauguration, a press conference was held in Warsaw, where among the participants were: Dr Jadwiga Mojzesowicz-Bilewska, President of the Board of Directors of Artis ID SA, Peter J. Cox Đ Managing Director of ID Data Systems, Remigiusz Montwiłł, President of the Board of Directors of Argo Card Sp. z o.o. and Jacek Kumierczyk, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Ortis SA.
The new company has its seat in Bydgoszcz, where a complete production line was moved from the Lewes plant (Great Britain) belonging to ID Data Systems. Final production capacity of the new company is estimated a 150 million cards a year, which should allow it, as it was emphasised on the conference, to take the leading position in the market (with 70% share), and also to play the key role on the European markets, with special attention to Central Europe, countries of the Baltic Sea region and of former Soviet Union. Produced cards will be laminated (up to 5 layers of PVC) with a magnetic strip and microprocessor, mono- or polychromatic print, and personalised (electronic tickets, telephone cards, entrance cards, loyalty programs, etc). Current orders guarantee production at the level not lower than 70 million cards a year, of which 80% is to be for export.
Setting the production in Poland is first of all connected with lower production costs; what is very important, opening of the new company will generate new, highly needed work places.
