In the opinion of many people in the printing industry, this year's drupa marked a turning point by changing the market climate and for many companies it was an occasion for signing new contracts or at least making new contacts. In the first week of the fair Deva-Print (Polish representative of KBA) contracted two Rapida 105 printing presses.
In the field of digital print, signing of a contract by Xteam for the first in Poland Xerox DocuColor iGen3 system was another major event (more about it further). Mller Martini Sp. z o.o. sold a Diamant hard-binding production line and a Ventura stitching machine to Warsaw-based Drukarnia Naukowo-Techniczna. Many other suppliers of prepress systems, printing presses and postpress equipment, as well as representatives of various printing houses, expressed their satisfaction regarding this year's exhibition.

Sunday 3000 Duplex is one of only two of this type heatset printing presses currently operating in Europe. It was purchased from Tusch, an Austrian printing house. It is additionally equipped with a QuadTech RCS 4000 Icon web-guidance and cut-off control systems (for six webs) as well as QuadTech CCS Icon colour control system for all eight printing units.
Soon, in the Group's printing houses there will appear more printing presses and systems purchased by the Winkowski company at drupa.
IPI Congress in Warsaw
World Congress of IPI (International Press Institute) and its 53rd General Meeting were held in Warsaw from 15th to 18th of May. The event was hosted by Agora, the publisher of ăGazeta WyborczaÓ, which is celebrating its 15th anniversary this year.
The congress was attended by President Aleksander Kwasniewski, Prime Minister Marek Belka and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Wlodzimierz Cimoszewicz, who, besides making speeches prepared for the occasion, answered questions from journalists and publishers from all continents.
The 15th anniversary celebrations also gave the world's top journalists cooperating with IPI an opportunity to learn more about the details of the historical peaceful takeover of power in Poland by the opposition and the change of political system, which later gave rise to similar changes in the Soviet Union.
Media activity on a global scale was the subject of a three-day debate of the congress. Many countries now struggle for democracy and the freedom of speech. It was also discussed how dangerous the journalists job is and how many of them are still being repressed by the authorities. The message of the congress was the fight for protection of human dignity.
