Central and Eastern Europe Packaging Conference The 3rd Central and Eastern Europe Packaging Conference will be held in Poznan on Taropak Fair on the 21st of September. The organisers are: Central Packaging Research and Development Institute, National Packaging Chamber, International Poznan Fair and SYBA Packaging Association (Czech Republic). It will be a continuation of conferences held in Bern and Prague, organised by this Association. New materials and innovative technologies are a challenge both for the producers and the users of packaging materials. Thanks to them, a continuous progress is being made in packaging production, packaging systems, distribution and logistics. At the same time, packaging is expected to meet increasingly higher requirements both in terms of goods preservation and environment protection. These topics will be the object of the conference. Poligrafika is one of the conferenceŐs media partners. New press printing houses Seregni Printing GroupŐs printing house in Sosnowiec started operating in July. That is where a daily newspaper Fakt, published by Axel Springer Polska, is printed, or rather a part of its circulation (20-25%) mostly for the Upper Silesia region. The new printing house is equipped with a KBA Express printing press and it took over a part of the newspaperŐs production from the Polskapresse printing house in Krakow, Warszawa Print in Raszyn near Warsaw, and Presspublika in Koninek. Besides that, part of circulation of Fakt is printed in Warsaw in a printing house also belonging to Seregni Printing Group. Another printing house which is to be built in Sosnowiec at the cost of approximately PLN 40 million to be the invested by Polskapresse Group. Its start-up is planned for the second half of the next year. It will already be the 8th printing house belonging to this group Đ Polskapresse is the owner of five plants and a shareholder of another two. First in Poland newest generation Vutek printing press Opinion Printing House purchased a new VUTEkUltraVu II 3360 EC for large format advertisement printing jobs. It is the first such press in Poland. The new Vutek prints in 720 dpi resolution in 8 colours. Print on a 3,2 meter-wide reel is possible on practically any surface Đ beginning with banner and vinyl screen, through paper, to self-adhesive foil and fabrics and heavy PVC. The press can run at the top speed of 192m2 per hour. Opinion presently owns two Vutek printing presses. The company is establishing a strong foothold on the Polish market and on the Western European markets it has already been offering its products and services for many years. ăThe ArtistsŐ CanonÓ The first edition of the ArtistsŐ Canon campaign, organised by Canon Polska on the 1st of July, ended with a press conference and a viewing the exhibition. This initiative is designed to support talented young people, who want to combine creative passion with professional work in advertising and related fields. Artists between the ages of 18 and 27 could participate in the competition from the 1st of February to the 30th of April 2005. Their task was to submit their works in the following categories: photography, video, animation, 2D graphics, 3D graphics, motion design and comics. The worksŐ topic was ăNature and technology Đ harmony of the futureÓ. The works were judged by a jury consisting of experts in the area of advertising and visual communication. The official announcement of the results and the award ceremony took place at an festive gala at the end of May. The awarded and the honourably mentioned works were placed in an album entitled ăThe ArtistsŐ CanonÓ, the first of the kind in Poland, which will be given to advertising agencies and other companies interested in cooperation with the young artists.
