Taropak 2004 The International Packaging Technology and Logistics Exhibition, Taropak 2004 in Poznan is over. From September 21 to 24, over 700 exhibitors from 32 countries presented their products on an area of over 17 thousand square meters. This yearŐs show was visited by over 40 thousand professionals of related fields. Alexis Stassinopoulos, President of World Packaging Organisation (WPO) was a guest of honour. Another fact confirming the high rank of the event was that the First Regional Conference of Chambers of Packaging of Central and East Europe was held there as well as another meeting of members of COPE. The Exhibition was accompanied by numerous conferences and seminars, Polish-Ukrainian Economical Forum and also an exhibition of works of young packaging designers. On the first day, during the Ceremonial Evening, among others, the New Technology Leader was awarded in a contest organised by Poligrafika and the Gold Medal MTP Taropak 2004 Award Ceremony was held on September 23, where five products were awarded. This yearŐs Taropak took up six halls. For the first time, the organisers decided to designate a separate area for the printing industry. There represented were printing houses connected with the packaging and labelling sectors, suppliers of printing presses, equipment and materials, and also the Polish Flexographic Technical Association. Another strong ăprintingÓ accent was a conference ăPrinting in the Packaging Industry Đ directions in development, opportunities and ways to successÓ, organised by the Polish Chamber of Printing and co-organised by Poznan International Fair, held on the second day of the exhibition. About 250 people attended the conference. 10th anniversary of Stora Enso Polska On September 27 Stora Enso celebrated 10th anniversary of its presence in Poland. Henrik Stjernvall, Managing Director of Stora Enso Polska, welcomed the guests and briefly summarised the history of the companyŐs operations. Then, Jukka HŠrmŠlŠ, CEO of Stora Enso, had a speech, in which he characterized the group as the worldŐs leader in paper, packaging boards and forest products, with the sales value of 12.2 billion euro, employing 44,000 employees in 40 countries. He said that PolandŐs joining the European Union opened new possibilities, which Stora Enso intends to take advantage of in order to expand its operations here Đ relevant decisions are to be made soon. Among the guests there were representatives of publishing and printing houses, such as: Agora, Axel Springer Polska, Presspublica, Bertelsmann, Winkowski, Media Express, Ortis; as well as paper companies, including: Arctic Paper Kostrzyn, Cezex, Europapier-Impap, Papyrus. CustomerŐs Day at Avery Dennison This year the Fasson brand, trademark of Avery Dennison, celebrates its 50th birthday. Because of that, the CustomerŐs Day organised traditionally by the Polish branch of Avery Dennison Roll Materials Europe, was quite special. On September 17, many guests turned up at the companyŐs seat, most of them clients and partners of the company. This yearŐs celebrations of CustomerŐs Day were also an occasion for presentation of the new distribution centre seated in the same building as the companyŐs headquarters. Hanna Barcinska (photo below), head of Avery Dennison Roll Materials EuropeŐs Poland, Belarus, Ukraine and Baltic countries Division welcomed the guests. She also introduced the new technical and marketing director, Robert Brania, responsible for the entire region of North-Eastern Europe. Lohmann takes over Techni Tapes In July 2004, the Techni Tapes Company from Sopot, became sister company in the Lohmann Group, taking a new name, Lohmann Polska. Lohmann Group took over 80% of stock; remai-ning 20% belongs to Piotr Swietlicki. Beginning in 1994, Techni Tapes had cooperated with the Lohmann Company, focusing selling adhesive tapes for paper and print industries, among others. Presently the company has branches in four major trade centre cities in Poland. The new company is able to meet the needs of the new countries of the European Union in the East-Central Europe. PAP to take over DNT Minister of Treasure approved the take-over transaction of Drukarnia Naukowo-Techniczna by the Polish Press Agency; merger is to take place before the end of this year. As it can be concluded on the basis of the information in one of the industry portals, one more large printing house is also to join the two companies. As a result, the employment figure of the created group would reach 500 persons and its turnover Đ PLN 70 million.
